BRICS Agri Portal to Connect Farmers, Agri-Tech Startups and Markets Across Member Countries: MP Sahney

New Delhi, September 11, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

A dedicated BRICS Agri Portal will soon be launched to strengthen agricultural trade, technology, innovation and collaboration among member countries, Member of Parliament and BRICS Business Council (India) member Dr Vikramjit Singh Sahney said.

The decision was taken during a session on “Promoting Agri Products and Agri-tech Startups in BRICS”, chaired by Dr Sahney.

He said the proposed portal would serve as a common platform connecting farmers, agri-tech startups, researchers, investors and businesses across BRICS countries. It is expected to facilitate greater market access, technology and knowledge exchange, sharing of best practices, and new opportunities for agricultural trade and investment.

Dr Sahney said the platform would also support affordable financing for agricultural machinery and mechanisation, helping farmers adopt modern equipment and technologies. It would contribute to strengthening agricultural value chains while promoting improved post-harvest management and greater value addition.

The portal is also expected to facilitate increased intra-BRICS agricultural trade through cooperation in plant protection and quarantine, along with efforts to harmonise standards and protocols among member countries.

Highlighting the collective role of BRICS in global food security, Dr Sahney said the grouping accounts for around 42 per cent of global agricultural production and holds about one-third of the world’s agricultural land.

“We must leverage this strength through technology, climate-smart agriculture and stronger cooperation across agricultural value chains,” he said.

Dr Sahney emphasised that emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, remote sensing, precision farming and digital marketplaces could help farmers raise productivity while using fewer resources.

He said stronger adoption of these technologies, combined with deeper cooperation among BRICS nations, could contribute to building a more resilient and sustainable agricultural and food system.
