Panipat Patwari, Private Person Arrested While Taking ₹20,000 Bribe: Vigilance Bureau

The State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB), Panipat unit, has arrested a revenue patwari and a private person for allegedly accepting a ₹20,000 bribe in connection with the registration of a land mutation.

The accused have been identified as Subhash, Patwari of Babarpur circle in Bapoli tehsil of Panipat district, and Usman, a private person from Adhmi village in Panipat district.

According to the complaint received by the bureau, the complainant alleged that Patwari Subhash had demanded ₹35,000 for entering the mutation of 100 square yards of agricultural land belonging to the complainant’s relative in Ganjbar village, Panipat.

Following the complainant’s request, the alleged bribe amount was reduced to ₹20,000, according to the complaint.

Acting on the information, the SV&ACB Panipat unit laid a trap. Subhash and Usman were allegedly caught accepting the ₹20,000 bribe near the toll plaza, close to the HSVP Sector-18 office in Panipat.

A gazetted officer and a shadow witness were present during the trap operation, the bureau said.

A case has been registered at the SV&ACB police station in Karnal as FIR No. 22 dated August 25, 2026, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The Haryana Police said its campaign against corruption was continuing and warned that strict legal action would be taken against government officials and employees who demand or accept bribes in exchange for carrying out official work.
