Ram Rahim’s Fresh Parole Raises Questions Over Equal Treatment: SGPC Chief Dhami

Amritsar, August 25, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly objected to the government granting another parole to Dera Sirsa chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, saying the decision reflects a “dual and discriminatory” approach.

In a statement, Dhami said governments were repeatedly granting parole and furlough to Ram Rahim, who is serving sentences for serious crimes including murder and rape, while Sikh prisoners who have remained incarcerated for long periods were allegedly being denied parole even to meet seriously ill family members.

He said the contrasting treatment raised questions about the credibility of the equal application of law and justice in the country.

Dhami also referred to the cases of Bandi Singhs who, he said, have remained incarcerated in different jails across the country for three decades. He alleged that several of them had completed their legal sentences but that their release continued to be delayed.

The SGPC president said repeatedly granting parole and furlough to Ram Rahim while adopting what he termed a discriminatory approach towards Bandi Singhs was a matter of serious concern.

He alleged that governments were overlooking Ram Rahim’s serious crimes for political benefit while treating the cases of Sikh prisoners differently.

Dhami warned that such “double standards” could further deepen a sense of alienation among the Sikh community.

He urged governments to reconsider what he described as a discriminatory policy and ensure that the principles of equality and justice were applied uniformly.
