The Border Security Force (BSF) has recovered 1.15 kg of heroin during a search operation near Border Out Post (BOP) Pachharian in the Ferozepur sector, officials said on Monday.
The recovery was made by personnel of the BSF’s 99 Battalion after troops deployed on night duty heard the sound of a drone in the area. The ambush party was alerted through radio communication, following which surveillance was intensified.
Soon afterwards, the troops heard a dropping sound and immediately cordoned off the suspected area. During the subsequent search, BSF personnel recovered two packets containing heroin with a combined weight of 1.15 kg, along with a computerised weighing scale.
The recovery was reported to the police, following which an FIR was registered against unidentified persons under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The case has been registered as FIR No. 287.
The latest recovery comes amid a series of drug seizures by the 99 Battalion in the Ferozepur sector.
On August 20, BSF personnel recovered 964 grams of heroin along with a drone from an agricultural field near BOP Shame Ke. A day earlier, on August 19, troops recovered 1.28 kg of heroin along with a DJI Mavic drone near Kasso Ke during another search operation.
