The Jharkhand High Court on Friday stayed the implementation of orders cancelling appointments made through the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) and Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) examinations.
The order came while the court was hearing four separate petitions challenging the Hemant Soren government’s decision to cancel recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and JSSC, along with appointments made through them.
A bench headed by Justice Deepak Roshan stayed the government orders concerning appointments arising from the JSSC-CGL and CDPO examinations.
The court also sought responses from the state government and the concerned commissions on the two recruitment cases. The government has been asked to explain the grounds for cancelling the examinations and appointments and place before the court the findings that emerged during the investigation.

The development comes a day after the High Court granted an interim stay on orders cancelling appointments made through the JPSC 11th-13th Combined Civil Services and Food Safety Officer examinations.
During the proceedings, the court gave the state government time until September 7 to submit its response. The petitioners have been directed to file their rejoinder by September 14. Advocate General Rohit Rai also requested the court to prescribe a specific timeframe for the government to file affidavits in all related matters.
The state government’s decisions followed an ongoing CID investigation into alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. On August 18, the government announced the cancellation of 22 examinations, suspension of the process for six others and a decision to bring 17 more recruitment examinations conducted since 2014 within the scope of the investigation.
The Department of Personnel, Administrative Reforms and Official Language subsequently issued notifications implementing these decisions.
The cancellations have affected a large number of candidates who had cleared the examinations and secured appointments, with some having already joined government service.
