Television actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee has called for the resignation of Punjab’s Education Minister following the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Reacting to a post on social media platform X, Devoleena endorsed demands for the education ministers of Punjab, Kerala and Karnataka to step down, arguing that Pradhan’s resignation had set a precedent.
The original post claimed that with Dharmendra Pradhan resigning, education ministers in the three states should also resign and tagged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, urging them to stand by their earlier statements.
Responding to the post, Devoleena wrote: “Countdown begins…… Shubh kaam mein aur deri nahi honi chahiye… Own it & Resign.”
Her remarks came days after actress Shweta Tiwari also questioned when Punjab’s Education Minister would resign. Sharing a video of CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke on Instagram Stories, Tiwari had suggested that underperforming Cabinet ministers should also be held accountable.
Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as Union Education Minister on July 25 following weeks of student protests over alleged irregularities in the examination system, including the NEET-UG paper leak controversy.
The protests intensified after police action against demonstrators at Jantar Mantar drew criticism and later gained further momentum following the removal of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site after he completed a 21-day hunger strike demanding accountability over examination-related issues.
