Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday welcomed the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, describing it as a victory for the country’s youth, families affected by the examination controversy and the united Opposition.
In a post on X, Kharge said the voices of students protesting across the country had finally been heard. He termed the development a triumph for millions of young people who had demanded reforms and accountability in the education system.
The Congress chief also said the resignation represented a victory for families who had lost their children and for Opposition parties that had consistently raised the issue both inside Parliament and through public protests.
Kharge alleged that the Narendra Modi government had failed to address concerns over repeated examination irregularities and called on the Prime Minister to apologise to the country’s youth. He also demanded action against those responsible for using force against protesting students.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned earlier on Saturday amid nationwide protests over alleged examination paper leaks and other examination irregularities.
In his resignation statement, Pradhan said he was deeply pained by the developments of the past several days and had stepped down to prevent anti-national forces from exploiting the situation. He reaffirmed his commitment to students and the education sector, saying his decision was aimed at protecting the integrity of the examination system and safeguarding the future of the country’s youth.
