Uday Krishna Reddy, a trainee IPS officer at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad, who allegedly attempted suicide on Monday following allegations by a fellow woman trainee officer that he sexually harassed her, has claimed in a purported handwritten suicide note that they were in a relationship for a year.
In the note, he named four persons, including the woman and her husband, holding them responsible for his decision to end his life.
He claimed they had been in a relationship since June 2025 and continued to be physically and emotionally involved even after her marriage.
Reddy wrote that she came to his room and initiated a fight, claiming he reacted only in defence. He further alleged that on July 9, 2026, she came to his room and kissed and hugged him without his consent.
He said he had recorded the incident as evidence and sent it to her husband, since he had earlier warned her not to visit his room. He accused her of manipulating events and falsely accusing him of assault.
He also named two of her friends, alleging they instigated her without knowing the full story. Holding all four responsible for his decision to die by suicide, he demanded action against them, stating that proof of their relationship was in his phone.
Reddy allegedly consumed a poisonous substance at his relative’s house in Moti Nagar on Monday. He was admitted to a private hospital at SR Nagar, where his condition is reported to be stable.
Earlier, he had posted on social media that the complaint and rumours against him were baseless and untrue. After the police registered a case on the complaint of a woman trainee IPS officer on Sunday, he left the academy and went to his relative’s house.
The 30-year-old woman trainee officer, in her complaint lodged on the night of July 18, alleged that Reddy harassed her between June 23 and July 10 while they were undergoing training at the academy.
She accused him of sending abusive messages, subjecting her to criminal intimidation, recording her private video and sending it to her husband. She also alleged that he took her mobile phone to his room, forced her to disclose its password and blackmailed her into revealing personal messages.
Based on her complaint, Attapur police registered a case under Sections 74 (criminal force against a woman), 75 (sexual harassment), 77 (voyeurism), 78 (stalking), 79 (insulting the modesty of a woman), 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 66E (violation of privacy) and 67A (transmission of sexually explicit material in electronic form) of the IT Act.
Hailing from Ullapalem in Prakasam district, Reddy last year secured All India Rank 350 in the Civil Services Examination and joined the IPS.
He joined the police force as a constable in 2013, quit in 2018 to prepare full-time for the Civil Services, and, after multiple attempts, succeeded.
He initially joined the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) after securing rank 780, but later reappeared and secured rank 350 to join the IPS.(Agency)
