Three police personnel have faced disciplinary action after a truck loaded with stone chips, seized for allegedly transporting the material without a valid challan, went missing from the premises of Mufassil police station in Bihar’s Munger district.
Munger Superintendent of Police Syed Imran Masood said Police Training Centre (PTC) Dhananjay Kumar and station Munshi (clerk) Arvind Kumar have been suspended with immediate effect following an inquiry conducted by Headquarters Deputy Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Gupta.
The SP has also recommended the suspension of Mufassil Station House Officer Vipin Kumar Singh, an Inspector, to the Deputy Inspector General of Police. Separately, action has been recommended to the District Magistrate against then-Mining Inspector Md. Arman.
Rajesh Kumar has been appointed the new SHO of Mufassil police station and directed to assume charge within 24 hours and submit a compliance report to police headquarters.
The missing truck, bearing registration number BR10GD 5005, was seized by Mining Inspector Arman on July 3 after allegedly being found carrying stone chips without a valid challan. It was subsequently handed over to the police station. A fine of around Rs 11.18 lakh was imposed in connection with the vehicle.
The inquiry found that Dhananjay Kumar allegedly failed to inform the SHO about the seizure list and receipt details. Arvind Kumar, who was the station Munshi on the morning of July 3, also allegedly failed to bring the seizure to the SHO’s notice.
The truck’s disappearance came to light on July 10 when Arman returned to the station after seizing another vehicle and found that the truck was no longer there.
The inquiry also found alleged negligence by Arman, who reportedly did not inform senior officials after learning that the vehicle had disappeared.
Senior police officers, including the SP and Sadar SDPO, subsequently questioned the SHO. Singh initially claimed that Arman had not submitted the seizure list and had left the truck outside without obtaining an acknowledgement. However, after the seizure documents and acknowledgement were produced, he reportedly said a PTC posted at the station had received them but failed to inform him.
Police are searching for the missing truck.
There have also been allegations that the truck owner may have colluded with police personnel to remove the vehicle and evade the substantial fine. The allegations, however, have not been established by the inquiry so far.
