BJP MP from New Delhi Bansuri Swaraj has described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Mangal Milan” initiative as a platform for Parliamentarians to exchange ideas and discuss issues concerning nation-building.
Speaking in a video shared by the Modi Story platform on social media, Swaraj said Parliamentarians meet every Tuesday under the initiative for open conversations on a range of issues, from the NEET-UG paper leak to India’s young innovators in space technology.
“We are an alliance united on nationalist ideology where the resolve for nation-building is the common cause. The Prime Minister has chosen the name ‘Mangal Milan’ for these meetings,” she said.
Swaraj recalled that the first meeting was held after reports of the NEET paper leak emerged. She said Modi emphasised that paper leaks should not become a matter of party politics and called for collective efforts to tackle the problem.
“The first thing that he (PM Modi) said was that paper leak is a crisis that does not come under party politics. That we need to rise above political ideology and counter such menace. He had said that paper leak is a serious crime,” she said.
According to Swaraj, Modi also highlighted the contribution of young people to India’s scientific and technological progress. She recalled him mentioning that the average age of the Skyroot Aerospace team was around 28 and citing the successful launch of Vikram-1, a privately developed Indian orbital launch vehicle.
She also said the Prime Minister discussed India’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with several countries and urged MPs to connect with young people and ensure that different sections of society benefit from the opportunities created through such agreements.
“In such tough times, when the whole world is burning in the heat of war, India has signed not one, not two, but nine FTAs to secure its economic safety,” Swaraj said.
She described “Mangal Milan” as a forum where challenges and ideas are discussed with the aim of translating conversations into action.
