The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab, in a joint operation with the Commissionerate Ludhiana Police, has arrested two persons allegedly wanted in connection with the murder of property dealer Harjinder Singh alias Harry Jhanda and recovered a 9mm Glock pistol and a live cartridge from their possession.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the arrests were made as part of the ongoing drive to dismantle organised crime and gangster networks in the state.
The accused have been identified as Manjit Singh alias Bobby and Mohit Kumar, both residents of Chanderlok Colony in Ludhiana.
According to police, several armed persons allegedly attacked Harjinder Singh with pistols and sharp-edged weapons in Swatantra Nagar, Ludhiana, at around 11.30 pm on August 7. He died in the attack.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Manjit Singh has a criminal history and has been booked in multiple cases, including those related to attempt to murder and offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police also said he was allegedly operating a local gang in Ludhiana city. Further investigation is underway.
ADGP AGTF Promod Ban said the task force received credible human intelligence regarding the whereabouts of two accused in the murder case. The information was subsequently shared with the Technical Cell, which successfully traced their movements.
Acting on the technical inputs, AGTF teams led by Inspector Vikramjeet Singh, in coordination with Commissionerate Ludhiana Police, arrested the two accused from the Tibba area.
Commissioner of Police Ludhiana Swapan Sharma said the remaining accused involved in the crime had been identified and police teams were conducting raids to apprehend them.
A case, FIR No. 182 dated August 8, 2026, has been registered at Tibba police station under Sections 103, 324(4), 307, 191(3) and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
DGP Gaurav Yadav reiterated that Punjab Police remained committed to dismantling organised crime and gangster networks to maintain peace, safety and security across the state.
