The BJP Punjab unit on Tuesday received a political boost in Bathinda with former Bathinda Rural MLA Darshan Singh Kotfatta joining the party along with several local leaders and supporters.
Kotfatta joined the Bharatiya Janata Party under the leadership of Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon. The joining ceremony was attended by former Bathinda MP candidate Parampal Kaur Maluka, state media head Vineet Joshi, Bathinda Urban district president Sarup Chand Singla and Bathinda Rural district president Gurpreet Singh Maluka.
Several leaders from the Bathinda region also joined the BJP. They included Mintu Singh, sarpanch of Batti Patti Chak Attar Singh Wala; former Zila Parishad member Malkeet Singh of Balluana; Rampura Phul senior vice-president Gurtej Singh Rana; former sarpanch Jagjit Singh of Loolwai; Gurdwara Committee Loolwai president Angrez Singh; former sarpanch Jasvir Singh of Jaisingh Wala; former sarpanch Pash Singh of Batti Patti; and former sarpanch Balwinder Singh of Phullomithi.
Others who joined the party included Ankit Chawla, former chairman of the National Rajiv Gandhi Brigade from Bathinda city; former Gram Panchayat members Gurpyar Singh and Balraj Singh of Chughke Kalan; Akali Dal youth leader Rampal Singh of Chughke Kalan; Jagjit Singh of Loolwai; Har Gurnaz Singh (Laddi) of Sardargarh; former Youth Congress president of Deon village Gurcharan Singh; and Harcharan Singh Kotfatta.
BJP leaders described the influx as an indication of the party’s expanding organisational presence in Bathinda and Punjab. They attributed the decision of leaders from different backgrounds to join the party to what they described as the BJP’s growing popularity in the state and the policies of the Narendra Modi-led Central Government.
They said the latest induction reflected the party’s efforts to strengthen its grassroots organisation and broaden its support base across Punjab.
