RG Kar Rape-Murder Case: CBI Summons Hospital Staff, Doctors for Fresh Questioning

Kolkata, August 11, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned hospital staff, including doctors who were on duty at the building of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital where a junior doctor was allegedly raped and murdered on August 8, 2024, as part of a fresh probe into the case.

The new CBI Special Investigation Team is reportedly questioning personnel who were present in the building that night, including those posted on the same floor where the crime allegedly took place. The junior doctor’s body was found in a seminar room on the morning of August 9.

The fresh questioning follows concerns raised by the victim’s family that the earlier investigation had not adequately examined hospital personnel who were present in the building around the time of the incident.

The CBI’s new team began a fresh investigation after the Calcutta High Court directed a renewed probe. The court had also expressed concern over the progress of the investigation and advised the agency to proceed from the beginning rather than remain guided by the findings of the earlier probe.

The investigators have also seized the mobile phone of a woman hospital employee who was reportedly among the first to contact the victim’s family after the body was discovered.

According to sources, the seizure was linked to allegations by the family that the employee gave contradictory information during subsequent telephone conversations within a short period. The phone has been sent for forensic examination, while investigators are examining call records and other data as part of the probe.

The case relates to the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata in August 2024.
