Punjab’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has busted another cross-border narcotics smuggling module in Ferozepur, arresting three persons and recovering 30.672 kg of heroin, along with a Hyundai Verna allegedly used for transporting the contraband.
The arrests were made by the ANTF Ferozepur Range as part of the state government’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday.
The accused have been identified as Anmolpreet Singh alias Anmol, 24, of Kasuri Gate, Ferozepur; Akash Singh alias Akash, 22, originally from Gulam Pattra village and currently residing in Sant Kabir Nagar, Ferozepur; and Anshpreet Singh alias Ansh, 25, of Raj Ghat, Ferozepur.
According to the DGP, preliminary investigation indicates that the heroin consignment was pushed across the International Border by a foreign-based drug smuggler and received by an Indian-based smuggler near Ali Ke village in Ferozepur. The consignment was allegedly meant for further transportation and distribution.
Investigators are now working to establish the backward and forward linkages of the network and identify other persons connected with the cross-border handlers.
Additional Director General of Police, ANTF, Nilabh Kishore said the operation followed specific human intelligence regarding the movement of the consignment after it had been retrieved.
Acting on the input, ANTF teams led by SP, ANTF Ferozepur Range, Gurinderbir Singh, laid an interception operation along the Ferozepur-Fazilka road. The suspects were intercepted while travelling in the Hyundai Verna bearing registration number PB-77-5973. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 30.672 kg of heroin.
Nilabh Kishore said further arrests and recoveries were expected as the investigation progresses.
The latest action comes within four days of another joint operation by the Punjab Police and Border Security Force in Ferozepur, in which two persons were arrested and 30.200 kg of heroin was recovered.
A case, FIR No. 177 dated August 10, 2026, has been registered at the ANTF police station in SAS Nagar under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
