Sanjeev Arora Joins Punjab Cabinet; Sworn In by Governor at Raj Bhavan

Chandigarh, July 3, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

Sanjeev Arora, newly elected MLA from Ludhiana West and a senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was officially inducted into the Punjab Cabinet on Thursday. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at a formal ceremony held at Punjab Raj Bhavan, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in attendance.

Arora, a successful industrialist-turned-politician, secured his Assembly seat by defeating Congress’ Bharat Bhushan Ashu, BJP’s Jiwan Gupta, and SAD’s Advocate Parupkar Singh Ghuman in the recently concluded by-election. He was the only minister inducted in this round of Cabinet expansion, bringing the total number of ministers in the Mann-led Cabinet to 17—just one short of the constitutional limit of 18.

With his appointment, Ludhiana now has three ministers in the state Cabinet. Earlier Hardeep Singh Mundian and Tarunpreet Singh Sond were inducted in cabinet during a reshuffle.

Earlier Meet Hayer, vacated his ministerial post after being elected to Parliament from Sangrur.

Previously, several ministers including Vijay Singla, Inderbir Singh Nijjar, Chetan Singh Jauramajra, Fauja Singh Sarari, Anmol Gagan Mann, Brahm Shankar Jimpa, and Balkar Singh were dropped from the Cabinet due to various reasons.

As Arora is expected to be assigned key portfolios, a reshuffling of responsibilities among current ministers is likely. The final allocation of departments will be announced in the coming days.
