Making yet another major breakthrough in 30 kg heroin recovery case amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has arrested two more accused, including a juvenile, and recovered an additional 5.041 Kg of heroin in two separate operations, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Sunday.
Those arrested have been identified as Abhishek alias Abhi alias Bhindi (25), a resident of Chheharta in Amritsar and one Juvenile. The accused has a criminal background, with previous cases registered against him under the Arms Act, NDPS Act, snatching and assault-related offences.
The development came close on the heels of the arrest of six individuals— Gautam, Kabir alias Kaku, Sameer alias Sabharwal, Gurpreet alias Keeda and two juveniles— after recovering 30.045 kg of heroin from their possession on Thursday.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the investigation has revealed that the accused were linked to a Dubai-based smuggler who was facilitating the supply of heroin consignments from across the border. Further investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages in this case to identify other associates involved in the network, trace the financial trail, and uncover possible hawala connections, he said.
Sharing operational details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that acting on forward and backward linkages established during the investigation of a major cross-border drug smuggling case, police teams have recovered an additional 2.006 kg heroin from the possession of arrested accused Kabir alias Kaku and also arrested his two associates on his disclosure statement.
In a separate operation, police teams received an information regarding an accident of one of the operative of this module identified as Vanshdeep Singh as mentioned by arrested accused Abhishek, he said, while adding that acting swiftly, police teams immediately reached reached the spot and taken the injured person to the hospital.
The CP said that during the search of his Activa scooter, police recovered 3.035 kg heroin. The investigation has revealed that accused Vanshdeep Singh had been released on bail from Central Jail, Amritsar on February 2, 2025.
He said that the accused will be formally arrested after being declared fit by the doctors.
CP Gurpreet Bhullar said that the Dubai-based smuggler, who is already wanted in three major NDPS cases, used to share the drop locations with the accused, who, along with their associates, would retrieve the consignments from the designated spots and further distribute them to various recipients.
In this regard, a fresh case FIR No. 131 dated 14.06.2026 under sections 21-C and 25 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Chheharta in Amritsar.
