The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) carried out an extensive overnight cleanliness and restoration drive at and around Jantar Mantar following the conclusion of a protest, removing around 60 metric tonnes of waste and restoring affected public spaces for normal use.
NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal personally supervised the operation through Saturday night and later revisited the area on Sunday to inspect the completed restoration work. He directed officials to complete the exercise swiftly while maintaining high quality standards.
According to an official statement, NDMC teams launched the operation immediately after the protest site was vacated. The drive covered Jantar Mantar, Tolstoy Road, Sansad Marg, Jai Singh Road, Janpath, and surrounding areas of Connaught Place.
Chahal said the objective was to restore normal public life without delay and ensure that residents and commuters faced minimal inconvenience. He noted that officers and employees worked continuously through the night and into the following day to complete the task.
The operation was jointly undertaken by the Health and Sanitation, Civil Engineering and Horticulture Departments, with more than 500 officers and employees participating from Saturday night until Sunday afternoon.
The Civil Engineering Department deployed around 50 workers to clean roads and footpaths using four jetting machines, remove and repaint defaced public walls, repair damaged kerbstones and restore footpaths.
The Health and Sanitation Department deployed 75 sanitation workers overnight, followed by 35 additional workers during the day. The waste removal operation was supported by eight auto-tippers, two heavy trucks, one JCB and three high-pressure jetting machines.
The Horticulture Department restored green belts, central verges and landscaped areas to improve the appearance of the locality.
Chahal clarified that the NDMC had completed the cleaning of the protest site before any subsequent symbolic cleanliness activity took place. He also commended sanitation workers and field staff for their dedication, describing them as the Council’s greatest strength and appreciating their efforts in restoring normalcy.
