The Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum and Amrit Udyan will remain closed to visitors from September 11 to 13 in view of security and logistical arrangements for the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in the national capital, an official said on Thursday.
The Change of Guard Ceremony, scheduled at the Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday, will also not be held.
The temporary closure is aimed at reducing congestion in central Delhi and minimising inconvenience to BRICS delegates by restricting public movement around areas close to the summit venue at Bharat Mandapam.
The Delhi Metro has also decided to keep its museum at the Supreme Court Metro station closed for three days from Friday.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government has already declared a holiday for its offices on September 11. The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has also issued a circular declaring a holiday for Central government offices on the same day.
The Delhi Traffic Police has made several changes to court-related schedules in view of the summit. A National Lok Adalat scheduled for September 12 has been postponed to October 10, while cases listed in subordinate courts for September 11 and 12 will now be taken up on September 14.
The Traffic Police advised litigants to check revised dates before leaving home and avoid unnecessary travel to areas where high-security and traffic restrictions will be in force.
Ahead of the summit, traffic rehearsals are also underway across the capital. As part of the traffic management plan for September 11 to 13, diversions have been planned at 22 points, with regulated movement on more than 35 roads.
During trial runs, restrictions and diversions were enforced between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. for a motorcade rehearsal ahead of the BRICS Business Forum and the leaders’ summit.
With September 12 and 13 falling on Saturday and Sunday, traffic authorities expect relatively lighter regular traffic during the summit period, although elaborate arrangements remain in place for VVIP movements.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dinesh Kumar Gupta said advisories were being disseminated through the Delhi Police website, social media platforms and print media to keep the public informed.
“We have 22 diversion points in place, under which we will divert the traffic from designated points. We have also briefed our staff to guide people, wherever needed, regarding the diverted routes,” Gupta said.
The Traffic Police has urged citizens and cab service providers to carefully review the advisories concerning restricted routes to avoid inconvenience during the BRICS Summit.
