Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal to introduce a law for setting up fast-track courts to deal with paper leak cases, alleging that the Centre’s handling of the 2024 NEET paper leak investigation undermined the promise of swift justice.
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal referred to media reports claiming that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had informed a court that it had found no evidence against Sanjeev Mukhiya, who was earlier identified as an accused in the 2024 NEET paper leak case.
Kejriwal alleged that Mukhiya was arrested with much publicity but was later granted bail, and questioned the effectiveness of creating fast-track courts if investigating agencies failed to present evidence before courts.
“If the CBI says Sanjeev Mukhiya is not the mastermind, then who is? If there is no evidence against him, what is the purpose of setting up fast-track courts?” he asked.
The AAP leader also questioned whether adequate measures had been taken to prevent future examination paper leaks, alleging that students continued to suffer due to repeated irregularities in recruitment and entrance examinations.
Kejriwal further argued that the existence of fast-track courts alone would not ensure justice unless investigations were conducted effectively and prosecution was backed by credible evidence. Referring to existing fast-track courts for cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other serious offences, he claimed that many such cases still face delays.
The Prime Minister has announced that the government plans to introduce legislation in Parliament to establish fast-track courts for paper leak cases.
