A prestigious coffee table book on the life and economic philosophy of Dr Manmohan Singh was jointly released by distinguished Vice Chancellors Dr. Sardar Singh Johal, a Padma Bhushan awardee and former VC Central University Bathinda and Punjabi University, Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, the present VC PAU Ludhiana and Dr. S P Singh, a former VC of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Especially present too was Parminder Singh Bhandal, DCP ( Law & Order).
The book has been compiled and edited by S. Gurmeet Singh, Director Overseas and Founder Member Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle and published by Sikh Book Trust International at Model Town, Ludhiana.
The function started with the singing of shabads by Amarjit Singh Texla, Director Bhai Samund Singh Gurmat Sangeet Institute with other devout intellectuals.
In the welcome address, S. Gurmeet Singh gave details about the contents of the book which contains articles from India’s distinguished thinkers including the daughter of Dr Manmohan Singh.
He said that this multi-volume bilingual book includes 51 articles and tributes given by people from all parts of the country and abroad. The foreword of this book has been written by Dr. S. S. Johal, S. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, an eminent economist and Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahni besides also an article by Ms Daman Singh daughter of late prime minister.
Dr. S. P. Singh, while praising the beautiful structure of the book, was also advised to publish it in other Indian languages by Sahitya Academy and other institutions.
Dr. S. S. Gosal described the information given about Dr. Manmohan Singh in the book as very valuable and worth preserving.
Dr. Sardar Singh Johal shared many anecdotes from years of his working as an economist with Dr. Manmohan Singh. He described Dr. Manmohan Singh as a great thinker and a great man of action. His hardwork and honesty must be followed by all, he said.
S. K. B. Singh mentioned about Dr Manmohan Singh’s successful strategy of implementation of economic welfare works along with the opening of economy.
Mr. Jatinderpal Singh, Ex-Chairman and Founder Member, Study Circle, thanked all and said that meritocracy in minorities need to be encouraged as has been done for Dr Manmohan Singh who fully justified his positions.
