Bhilai Nagar Congress MLA Devendra Yadav has been issued a notice by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW)-Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), directing him to appear before the Special Court under the Prevention of Corruption Act in Raipur on October 5 in connection with a case registered in 2024.
Yadav, who represents the Bhilai Nagar Assembly constituency, is serving his second consecutive term as a Congress legislator. According to the notice, he has been named as an accused by the State EOW-ACB, Raipur, in Crime No. 3/2024.
The charges invoked in the case include Sections 7A and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018, along with Sections 420 (cheating), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 384 (extortion), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security) and 471 (using a forged document as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code.
The allegations relate to corruption, criminal conspiracy, forgery and other associated offences. The notice directs Yadav to appear before the Special Court on the scheduled date in connection with the proceedings.
The summons marks a further development in the investigation of the case registered in 2024. Yadav’s response to the notice and subsequent proceedings are expected to draw attention as the October 5 date approaches.
Yadav is a prominent Congress leader in the industrial city of Bhilai. He first won the Bhilai Nagar Assembly seat by defeating senior BJP leader and veteran politician Prem Prakash Pandey. He retained the constituency in the subsequent Assembly election, strengthening his position in the region.
His successive electoral victories over Pandey were seen as a significant political gain for the Congress in the industrial belt of Chhattisgarh.
The case has added to the legal and political scrutiny surrounding Yadav, against whom several criminal cases have reportedly been registered over the years. The allegations in the present case remain subject to legal proceedings.
