Bharatiya Janata Party National General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh launched a sharp attack on the ongoing turmoil within the Punjab Congress and the attitude of its high command, saying that Congress’s workshop of authoritarianism, dynastic politics, and sycophancy has once again been exposed.
He said that the Gandhi-Nehru family is playing a puppet game with Punjab, treating the emotions of Punjabis like lifeless dolls while political diktats are issued from Delhi. The voice of Punjab is being crushed under the authoritarian culture of the Congress high command.
Chugh said that for the last seven decades, Congress has never treated Punjab with respect or as an equal partner, but has instead used it as a political laboratory. Whether it was the Punjabi Suba movement, Punjab’s water rights, the Chandigarh issue, or the 1984 Sikh massacre, Congress betrayed Punjab at every critical moment. The people of Punjab can never forgive the party whose policies, intentions, and leadership led to Sikhs being burnt alive with tyres around their necks, turned Punjab into a laboratory of terrorism, and left the state to burn on a volcano of instability.
He said that no amount of explanations can hide the reality that Congress’s internal conflict has reached its peak. If everything is normal, why are several senior leaders avoiding key meetings and camping in Delhi? Every day brings a new power struggle and a fresh display of factionalism within Congress. Today, the party is not fighting for the people or raising Punjab’s issues; it is fighting only for chairs, egos, and personal ambitions.
Chugh said that when leaders of a party cannot trust one another, when they attempt to undermine each other on caste lines, and when even a former Chief Minister publicly alleges that workers from the Scheduled Caste community are being deliberately mistreated and pushed aside, that party has no moral authority to claim it can provide stable leadership to Punjab. The people of Punjab know Congress not by its claims but by its fractured reality.
He further said that Congress has now become an expired injection and stands politically exhausted in Punjab. Leaders with conviction have already left the party, leaving behind only groups of sycophants competing over who can stay closest to the Gandhi-Nehru family. Congress has no real presence on the ground. Its disintegrating structure reflects a party consumed by power politics, where every leader is busy protecting personal interests and no one has a roadmap for Punjab.
Chugh also attacked the Aam Aadmi Party government, saying it had promised top-up payments on every crop and MSP on 21 crops, but has failed to provide state MSP even on a single crop, while the BJP government in Haryana is providing MSP on 18 crops. Promises of jobs for every household, financial assistance for women, water for every farm, and round-the-clock electricity remain unfulfilled.
He said the government has completely failed in its claims of health and education revolutions and has also collapsed on law and order. Nearly two dozen grenade attacks have taken place, including attacks on police stations, while temples and gurdwaras have come under fire and even the police headquarters was targeted with a rocket launcher.
He said that today one slogan is being heard across Punjab’s villages: “Neither AAP-da nor KAP-da, Punjab wants BJP.” The Aam Aadmi Party has become an “AAP-da” that has pushed Punjab into disaster, while Congress has become a “KAP-da” that seeks only positions without delivering results.
The people of Punjab know that neither Congress delivered in the past nor AAP is delivering today. If Punjab is to be rescued from its financial burden of nearly Rs. 4.75 lakh crore, the menace of drugs, and deteriorating law and order, it can only be done by a BJP double-engine government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, because BJP alone has a clear roadmap for Punjab.
