India on Tuesday strongly criticised comments made by the Pakistani military on New Delhi’s growing engagement with Afghanistan, saying the remarks reflected Islamabad’s “insecurity and frustration” over the positive direction of India-Afghanistan relations.
Responding to recent remarks by Pakistan Army spokesperson Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Pakistan was unsettled by the strengthening ties between India and Afghanistan.
“Regarding the comments made by the spokesperson of the Pakistani army, I would like to say that such statements and comments reflect the Pakistani state’s insecurity and frustration over the positive trajectory of India-Afghanistan ties,” Jaiswal said.
The Pakistani military spokesperson had reportedly commented on India-Afghanistan relations while urging Afghanistan’s Taliban-led administration to stay away from what he described as the “non-believers” of Islam.
India also renewed its call for Pakistan to take credible action against cross-border terrorism and dismantle terrorist infrastructure operating from its territory.
“We continue to call upon countries to take strong action against cross-border terrorism and those promoting it. We call upon Pakistan to take strong action against cross-border terrorism and dismantle the terrorist infrastructure operating from its soil,” Jaiswal said.
Referring to India’s response to terrorism, the MEA spokesperson cited Operation Sindoor, saying the country had demonstrated its resolve against cross-border terror.
“Everyone witnessed India’s befitting response against terrorism during Operation Sindoor. Our stance is absolutely clear—that cross-border terrorism must cease. We will do whatever is necessary to protect our national interest,” he added.
India has continued to expand its engagement with Afghanistan through development and humanitarian initiatives. During Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visit to New Delhi in October last year, India announced that it would deepen cooperation in healthcare, public infrastructure and capacity-building to support Afghanistan’s economic recovery and development.
Afghan leaders have also publicly acknowledged India’s continued assistance and engagement with the Afghan people in recent years.
