Punjab Police continued its statewide offensive against gangster networks and their associates on Tuesday, conducting 676 raids under the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign and arresting 516 individuals during the latest operation.
The action was carried out on Day 196 of the campaign, which was launched by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, with the aim of making Punjab a gangster-free state.
Police teams from all districts, in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab, have been carrying out special operations at identified and mapped locations linked to gangsters and their associates across the state.
During Tuesday’s operation, police teams recovered six weapons and arrested 516 persons, taking the total number of arrests made under the campaign since its launch to 56,455.
Besides arrests, preventive action was taken against 308 individuals, while 12 proclaimed offenders were also arrested during the operation.
Punjab Police appealed to citizens to share information related to wanted criminals, gangsters and criminal activities through the Anti-Gangster Helpline number 93946-93946. The police said people can provide such information anonymously.
Meanwhile, the police continued its anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, which entered its 521st day.
During the latest drive, 106 drug smugglers were arrested and police recovered 2.1 kg heroin, 500 grams opium, 4 kg poppy husk, 676 intoxicant tablets and ₹5,810 drug money from their possession.
With these arrests, the total number of drug smugglers arrested under the campaign has reached 75,358 in 521 days.
As part of its de-addiction and rehabilitation efforts, Punjab Police also persuaded 17 persons to undergo treatment for drug addiction on Tuesday.
