Delhi Laxmi Yojana Gets 1.54 Lakh Registrations, Over 10,700 Applications Submitted

New Delhi, August 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The newly launched Delhi Laxmi Yojana has received a strong response from women across the national capital, with 1.54 lakh registrations completed on the official portal and 10,723 final applications submitted till Monday morning, an official said.

The scheme was launched by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday, along with the inauguration of the online registration portal. Within 12 hours of the portal becoming operational, more than 33,730 women had registered and 1,940 applications had been submitted.

Under the scheme, eligible women will receive financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month. The Delhi government said the initiative aims not only to provide monetary support but also promote savings, digital financial inclusion, social security and long-term financial stability.

Addressing the launch event, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the scheme fulfils the government’s commitment made during the Assembly elections towards women’s economic empowerment.

The scheme was initially approved as the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana but was renamed Delhi Laxmi Yojana to reflect its broader objective of promoting women’s dignity, prosperity and financial independence.

Gupta said the scheme will initially run for three years and is expected to benefit around 17 lakh women.

The beneficiaries will have two financial options. Under the first option, Rs 1,000 will be transferred every month to a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet for essential expenses, while Rs 1,500 will be deposited into an RD/FD account. Under the second option, the entire Rs 2,500 monthly assistance will be deposited into an RD/FD account to encourage savings.

The government has introduced a digital monitoring system for the CBDC wallet to ensure that funds are used only for essential household requirements. The assistance cannot be used for prohibited activities, including purchase of alcohol, tobacco, narcotic substances, gambling or betting-related expenses.

The Chief Minister said the scheme will function through a technology-based platform covering applications, document verification, eligibility checks, approvals, banking integration, PFMS services, CBDC transfers and SMS notifications.

Applications will undergo a four-stage verification process involving district-level authorities before approval. The verification process will include Aadhaar authentication, voter registration, family income details, electricity consumption, vehicle ownership, pension records and government employment information.

The eldest eligible woman in a family can apply for the scheme. Applicants must be between 21 and 60 years of age, have an annual family income below Rs 2.5 lakh, and meet prescribed residency and voter eligibility conditions.
