Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has congratulated teenage squash sensation Anahat Singh on her historic victory at the World Junior Squash Championships, expressing confidence that the landmark achievement is only the beginning of a successful international career.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media platform X, Sindhu praised the young Indian star for becoming the first player from the country to win the prestigious World Junior Squash Championships title. She also recalled her first interaction with Anahat through Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ) in 2022, saying the youngster’s maturity and composure had impressed her long before this breakthrough success.
“I couldn’t be prouder of this young champion, Anahat Singh, for winning the World Junior Squash Championships,” Sindhu wrote.
Reflecting on their meeting, the badminton ace said that despite Anahat’s young age at the time, her exceptional talent was matched by remarkable clarity, confidence and maturity, leaving a lasting impression.
Looking ahead, Sindhu expressed confidence that the triumph would be the first of many major achievements for the promising squash player.
“I know this is only the beginning. This is the first of many, many big victories to come,” she added.
Top seed Anahat lived up to expectations by defeating Egypt’s second seed Ruqayya Salem 11-3, 11-7, 11-9 in the women’s final, becoming the first non-Egyptian player to lift the World Junior Squash Championships title since American Amanda Sobhy achieved the feat in 2010.
The Indian teenager had already ended a 21-year wait by becoming the first player from the country to reach the championship final. She secured her place in the title clash after defeating Egypt’s Barb Sameh in the semifinals before overcoming another Egyptian opponent in the final to end Egypt’s dominance of the tournament, which had produced every women’s champion since 2011.
Anahat’s victory marks a defining moment for Indian squash, making her the country’s first-ever women’s World Junior champion and reinforcing her status as one of India’s brightest emerging sporting talents.
