Indian boxer Preeti Pawar is aiming to cap a breakthrough season with a medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, saying her sole focus is to give her best and make the country proud.
The 21-year-old, who represented India at the Paris Olympics, heads into her Commonwealth Games debut as one of India’s leading medal contenders in the women’s 54kg category after an outstanding run on the international circuit.
Preeti has enjoyed a stellar 2026 campaign, winning gold at the Asian Boxing Championships, where she defeated a three-time world champion in the final. She also claimed titles at the World Boxing Cup Finals and the EUBC Gold Grand Prix, establishing herself among the world’s top boxers in her weight class.
Reflecting on the upcoming Games, Preeti said representing India remains her biggest motivation. While acknowledging her recent success, she stressed that she is concentrating on her preparation and taking one bout at a time rather than thinking about medal expectations.
The young boxer credited the training she received at the national camp and the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) for sharpening her technical skills, fitness, recovery and mental strength ahead of the competition.
She also said competing regularly against world-class opponents had accelerated her development and helped her better understand both her strengths and areas requiring improvement.
Calling it a matter of immense pride to wear the Indian jersey, Preeti said the support of her family, coaches and teammates has been instrumental in her journey. She added that her goal is to give everything in every bout and make India proud at the Commonwealth Games.
