Miri Piri Khalsa March Proceeds to Tarn Taran; Akal Takht’s Authority Cannot Be Challenged, Says Giani Gargaj

Tarn Taran/Amritsar, July 25, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Miri Piri Khalsa March, organised under the aegis of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to mark Miri Piri Day, entered its second day on Saturday, proceeding from Gurdwara Bir Baba Budha Sahib to Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib, Tarn Taran, amid enthusiastic participation by the Sikh Sangat.

Before the march commenced, a religious congregation was held at Gurdwara Bir Baba Budha Sahib where Giani Rajdeep Singh, Granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, delivered a discourse. Addressing the gathering, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, officiating Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, said Sri Akal Takht Sahib is the supreme temporal seat of the Sikh community and has historically guided Sikhs to stand against oppression and uphold truth and justice.

He said the Miri Piri Khalsa March aims to reconnect the younger generation with Sikh heritage and inspire them to remain free from social evils such as drug abuse. Giani Gargaj asserted that forces attempting to challenge the authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib had never succeeded and never would. He also urged Sikh youth to remain united, stay away from drugs and work collectively for the progress of Sikh institutions.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said spreading the message of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the Guru’s Miri Piri philosophy to every household is a collective responsibility of the Panth. He said the SGPC, with the cooperation of Sikh organisations and the Sangat, is continuously working towards that objective.

Dhami urged the Sikh community to remain firmly connected with Gurbani and Sikh principles to safeguard its distinct identity. He also thanked the Sangat for the warm reception accorded to the march and for paying respects to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at various locations along the route.

Speaking to the media, senior Akali leader and former MLA Virsa Singh Valtoha described the march as a significant initiative to strengthen the Sikh community’s bond with Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Sikh principles. He appealed to the Sangat to participate in large numbers and said unity was essential to counter forces seeking to weaken Sikh values.

The march travelled through several towns and villages, including Jhabal, Sursingh, Bhikhiwind, Valtoha and Manochahal, before reaching Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib, Tarn Taran. Devotees welcomed the procession at different places by honouring the Panj Pyare, offering rumalas to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and paying their respects. Nihang Singh groups participated with traditional displays featuring elephants, horses and camels, while a bus carrying historical Sikh weapons and displays depicting Sikh martyrs attracted considerable attention.
