Veteran actress and social activist Shabana Azmi has been diagnosed with swine flu and advised complete bed rest after developing a high fever, forcing her to miss a scheduled protest on Friday.
According to her team, the 74-year-old actor is suffering from swine flu and has a fever of 102 degrees. She was expected to participate in a protest but was unable to attend following medical advice.
“Shabana ji was meant to go to the protest today but she has contracted swine flu with 102 fever and has been advised rest by the doctor,” her team said in a statement.
In recent days, Azmi had been actively participating in demonstrations at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, where she voiced support for demands related to reforms in the education system. She also used her social media platforms to share updates, photographs and videos from the protest site.
In one of her recent posts, the actress quoted a verse by her late father, renowned poet Kaifi Azmi, reflecting on the courage required to speak the truth. In another, she called for comprehensive reforms in the education sector and urged increased public spending on education, healthcare and women’s empowerment.
During one of the protest gatherings earlier this week, Azmi’s health reportedly deteriorated, and she was escorted to an emergency medical centre. Despite feeling unwell, she had continued to express support for the movement before her condition led doctors to recommend complete rest.
