Grammy-winning singer Shakira has called for greater investment in children and equal opportunities for underprivileged youngsters after sharing the stage with Uganda’s Ghetto Kids during the FIFA World Cup 2026 final.
Sharing a video on Instagram of her interaction with the children after the performance, Shakira praised their talent, enthusiasm and ability to inspire millions around the world.
“The Ghetto Kids of Uganda have brought us their contagious joy and love, and have inspired us so much with their talent,” she wrote, adding that many children around the world possess immense potential but lack the opportunities needed to realise it.
The global music icon urged governments, businesses and professionals to prioritise investments in children, questioning why equal opportunities remain out of reach for many.
“What could be more urgent for our governments, businesspeople and professionals than investing in children? What has to happen so that kids around the world receive equal opportunities?” she wrote.
Thanking the Ghetto Kids for their performance, Shakira said they had inspired important conversations about children’s welfare and the need to create opportunities for every child to thrive.
The performance took place during the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, where Spain defeated defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time to lift their second FIFA World Cup title. Substitute Ferran Torres scored the match-winning goal in the 106th minute, sealing Spain’s first World Cup triumph since 2010.
