The annual Shri Amarnath Yatra resumed on Saturday after a six-day suspension caused by continuous heavy rainfall, with devotees expressing relief and praising the Jammu and Kashmir administration and security agencies for ensuring their safety during the disruption.
The 18th batch of pilgrims left the Adhar Shivir Ram Mandir in Jammu for the holy cave shrine via the Baltal route after authorities reopened the pilgrimage following an improvement in weather conditions.
The yatra had been suspended from July 19 on both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes as persistent rain and adverse weather raised safety concerns.
Pilgrims welcomed the resumption of the journey, saying the temporary halt had not diminished their faith or determination to seek the blessings of Baba Barfani. Many also appreciated the arrangements made during the suspension, including accommodation, transportation and other essential facilities.
Several devotees praised the role of security personnel and the administration for ensuring a safe and comfortable stay in Jammu. Pilgrims said buses were arranged to help them visit religious and tourist destinations while they awaited the reopening of the routes.
First-time visitors as well as repeat pilgrims said they chose to remain in Jammu despite the delay, determined to complete the pilgrimage once conditions improved.
The Shri Amarnath Yatra, one of India’s most significant annual pilgrimages, is scheduled to conclude on August 28. According to official figures, more than 3.7 lakh devotees have offered prayers at the holy cave shrine so far during the ongoing 57-day yatra.
