RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday said the younger generation prefers dialogue and reasoning over unquestioning obedience, stressing that society must engage with youth through communication, affection and mutual understanding.
Speaking at the concluding session of the Vishwa Mangalya Sabha’s National Enlightenment Meeting on “Contemporary Motherhood” at the Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi, Bhagwat said the relationship between generations has changed significantly and requires a different approach.
Recalling the contrast with earlier times, Bhagwat said, “When we were young, it was an era of obedience. That is not the case anymore. The new generation asks questions. We have to explain the reasoning to them. We need to give them a lot of affection. We need to spend time with them.”
He said meaningful engagement with young people should be based on discussion rather than directives, adding that consensus-building is more effective than issuing instructions.
“We need to communicate. Not dictation, but discussion. Not orders, but consensus,” Bhagwat said.
His remarks came against the backdrop of ongoing protests in several parts of the country over alleged paper leaks and examination irregularities. Although Bhagwat did not directly refer to the demonstrations, his comments coincided with growing public debate over issues affecting students and the aspirations of the country’s youth.
