Indian shooter Sainyam clinched the silver medal in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol event at the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun in Hangzhou on Friday, opening India’s medal account at the tournament.
The Indian shooter delivered a composed performance in the final, finishing with a score of 243.4 to secure second place on the podium. The medal marks the second ISSF World Cup silver of her career, underlining her growing consistency on the international circuit.
A former junior world and Asian champion, Sainyam had qualified for the final with a score of 579, displaying steady precision throughout the qualification round before carrying her form into the medal-deciding contest.
India has fielded a 36-member contingent for the World Cup, comprising a mix of experienced Olympians and emerging talents across rifle, pistol and shotgun disciplines. The squad is competing in individual as well as mixed-team events.
The Indian contingent includes prominent names such as Manu Bhaker, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Esha Singh, Suruchi, Elavenil Valarivan, Sift Kaur Samra, Anish Bhanwala, Raiza Dhillon, Ganemat Sekhon and Olympian Anant Jeet Singh Naruka, among others.
With Sainyam’s podium finish, India has made a promising start to its campaign and will look to add to its medal tally in the remaining events of the competition.
