Former Trinamool Congress MP and now Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) leader Dr Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar on Friday expressed support for students protesting over the alleged NEET paper leak, while cautioning against violence and attempts to exploit the agitation.
In a statement posted on social media, the four-time former Lok Sabha MP from Barasat called for meaningful reforms to ensure a fair, transparent and student-centric examination system.
“Our students deserve a fair, transparent, and student-centric examination system. I therefore demand meaningful education reforms that address systemic shortcomings, ensure equity, and restore confidence in the process,” she said.
While endorsing the students’ concerns, Ghosh Dastidar said incidents of violence and any attempts by external elements to disturb public order were a matter of concern. She urged the Union Government, state governments, the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Parliament to address the issue with urgency.
“The genuine demands raised by the students must be respected and addressed with sincerity and urgency. The voice of our youth cannot be ignored,” she said, calling for dialogue and reforms.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said democratic protests should be allowed but warned that anti-national slogans or activities during demonstrations would not be tolerated. He said action would be taken against anyone attempting to disturb public order under the guise of protest.
The nationwide agitation over the alleged NEET paper leak has continued for over a month, with students demanding accountability and comprehensive reforms in the examination system.
