Veteran actress Archana Puran Singh says her iconic character Miss Braganza from the 1998 blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai remains one of the most memorable roles of her career, but she hopes audiences will now embrace her newer performances as well.
Speaking exclusively to IANS, Archana reflected on the lasting popularity of the character and admitted that while the role has been a major achievement, it also created a challenge for her as an actor.
“In a way, Miss Braganza is my victory, and in a way it can also be called my failing that I have not done another character which can overshadow Miss Braganza,” she said.
The actress added that the character’s continued popularity is a result of the creative vision behind it and the way it connected with audiences.
“If I look at it in a positive way, then yes, it was a great character created by Dharma and Karan Johar. And if I played it well, it has stayed in people’s minds,” she said.
Archana believes her latest project, Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya, allowed her to explore a role far removed from the image of Miss Braganza.
“What I did in Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya is so far away from Miss Braganza that I hope it also leaves a mark. Every character is not popular because of your talent alone. A film becomes popular because of everyone involved,” she said.
Calling the show a significant milestone in her career, Archana said the opportunity reaffirmed her faith that meaningful roles continue to come her way even after decades in the industry.
She expressed gratitude towards the makers, especially writer Biswapati Sarkar, for trusting her with a different kind of character.
“When Biswapati Sarkar conceptualised a role and then thought of me as the actor to play it, I felt very happy and proud,” she said.
Archana added that being considered for fresh and challenging roles remains her biggest achievement.
“After doing all that, if even in this role the creators are watching me and thinking of me, for me that is my real victory,” she said.
Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya, which premiered on OTT on July 24, has been receiving positive responses for its performances and storytelling.
