Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Friday said the Narendra Modi-led government is ready for a discussion on the NEET examination controversy in Parliament, asserting that the Centre remains committed to protecting students’ interests and ensuring transparency in the examination system.
Addressing the media in New Delhi, Joshi said the government acted promptly after allegations of irregularities surfaced and conducted a re-examination under the surveillance of 1,200 CCTV cameras to ensure fairness.
“The Modi government has always stood with students and the youth. It remains committed to taking strict action against any irregularities or injustices that affect their future,” he said.
The Union Minister alleged that “anti-social elements” were attempting to exploit the ongoing protests over the NEET issue. While affirming that students have the right to protest peacefully, he urged them to remain vigilant against attempts to hijack the movement for political purposes.
Joshi also claimed there were “hidden hands” behind the protests and accused some groups of orchestrating a campaign against the Central government.
Responding to demands for resignations over examination paper leaks, Joshi said the issue required systemic reforms rather than symbolic action. He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the setting up of fast-track courts to ensure speedy justice in such cases.
Targeting the Opposition, the Union Minister questioned how many education ministers or chief ministers had resigned during previous governments over similar examination-related controversies, including paper leaks.
Reiterating the government’s stand, Joshi said it was prepared for a constructive and dignified debate on the NEET issue in both Houses of Parliament and would consider all constructive suggestions in the interest of students.
