Trump Defends Tariffs, Says They Are Boosting US Economy and Investment

Washington, July 25, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

US President Donald Trump has defended his administration’s latest tariff measures, asserting they are legally sound and have helped attract trillions of dollars in investment to the United States.

Speaking during a question-and-answer session at the White House following an event on civilian nuclear energy, Trump dismissed concerns over the legal basis of the new tariffs and said the administration had adapted its approach after a recent Supreme Court ruling.

“These tariffs have been up for a long time. They’ve been approved for years,” Trump said, adding that the administration had relied on alternative legal authorities to continue implementing its trade agenda.

The President claimed the tariffs had generated billions of dollars in revenue and were a key factor behind what he described as a surge in investment.

“Because of tariffs, largely… we have $19.2 trillion being invested in our country,” Trump said, contrasting the figure with investment levels during the previous administration.

He argued that the investment boom would not have occurred without his trade policies and maintained that tariffs have strengthened the US economy by encouraging companies to expand manufacturing within the country.

Responding to a question on a recent trade action that cited child labour among its reasons, Trump said it appeared to be one of the factors considered by US trade officials but did not identify any specific country or provide further details.

Tariffs remain a central element of Trump’s economic agenda, aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing and increasing federal revenue. The policy continues to be closely watched by major trading partners, including the European Union and China, amid ongoing trade negotiations and legal challenges.
