India’s Diksha Dagar staged a remarkable comeback after a difficult start to finish tied for 33rd with a first-round score of 2-over 74 at the Scottish Open, keeping herself firmly in contention for a place in the weekend rounds.
Playing in challenging windy conditions at Dundonald Links, Diksha recovered brilliantly after slipping to six-over through 10 holes. The 24-year-old produced four birdies over her final eight holes to finish with a fighting 74 on a day when low scores were hard to come by.
Her round featured bogeys on the first, second and fourth holes, followed by a birdie on the seventh. A triple bogey on the eighth and another bogey on the 10th left her well behind, but birdies on the 11th, 14th, 17th and 18th sparked an impressive recovery.
Diksha, who has already recorded four top-10 finishes on the Ladies European Tour this season, was the best-placed among the three Indian golfers in the field.
Avani Prashanth struggled to an 8-over 80 and was tied for 116th, while Pranavi Urs carded a 12-over 84 to finish the opening day tied for 138th.
At the top of the leaderboard, South Korea’s Jenny Shin and American Lauren Coughlin shared the lead after carding 6-under 66. Another South Korean, A Lim Kim, was third at 5-under 67.
Germany’s Esther Henseleit, Japan’s Erika Hara and Miyu Yamashita, and Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist shared fifth place on 3-under 69.
World No. 1 Nelly Korda opened with an even-par 72 as difficult conditions tested many of the tournament’s leading players.
