Piyush Goyal Files Police Complaint Over AI-Generated Deepfake Video

New Delhi, July 25, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said he has filed a police complaint over an AI-generated deepfake video allegedly created by manipulating footage of his interaction with the media outside Parliament to spread misinformation.

In a post on X, Goyal said the video had been maliciously altered using Artificial Intelligence and circulated on social media with the intention of misleading the public.

He said an FIR (No. 123/26) was registered at Chanakyapuri Police Station at 4:35 a.m. on Saturday and warned that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in creating, circulating or knowingly promoting the fabricated video.

“Such irresponsible and malicious misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to mislead the public will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” Goyal said, urging citizens to rely only on official and authentic sources of information.

The minister also expressed confidence that people, particularly the youth, would not be misled by AI-generated misinformation.

The controversy arose after a purported video began circulating on social media claiming to show Goyal making threatening remarks about students participating in nationwide protests over the alleged NEET examination paper leak.

According to the minister, the manipulated clip was created using footage from his interaction with journalists outside Parliament earlier this week. During that media briefing, Goyal had defended the government’s position on the NEET issue and said he had intended to make his statement in Parliament but was unable to do so because of repeated disruptions by Opposition members.
