A 48-year-old man was killed after a group of armed persons allegedly attacked him at his house in Alike village of Ferozepur district late Wednesday night, with police suspecting an old rivalry behind the incident.
The deceased, identified as Gurbachan Singh, was allegedly attacked around 11.30 pm when a group of nearly two dozen men broke into his house and assaulted him with sharp-edged weapons and sticks, according to his family members.
Family members who tried to intervene were also allegedly beaten up during the attack. Gurbachan Singh was rushed for medical treatment but died on the way to the hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
The victim’s family alleged that the attack was connected to an earlier dispute involving one of Gurbachan Singh’s relatives. They claimed the accused had developed hostility towards him after he objected to them preventing the relative from visiting their house.
SHO Gurvinder Kumar said a case has been registered on the complaint of Gurbachan Singh’s wife. He said police teams are conducting raids to trace and arrest the accused.
The SHO added that the preliminary investigation indicated that Gurbachan Singh suffered severe head injuries, which led to his death. Further investigation into the case is underway.
