IMD Forecasts Heavy Rain Across Delhi-NCR, Several States as Active Monsoon Intensifies

New Delhi, July 25, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a fresh monsoon advisory, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the country over the next few days as active monsoon conditions persist.

According to the IMD, widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds is expected over Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Assam, Meghalaya and other northeastern states.

The weather department said the active spell has been triggered by a low-pressure area over southeast Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh, supported by an active monsoon trough and multiple cyclonic circulations. These systems are expected to sustain widespread rainfall across northwest, central, western and northeastern India.

In Delhi-NCR, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely on Saturday, with rainfall activity expected to intensify over the next two to four days. The IMD has indicated that isolated places may receive heavy rainfall from July 27 onwards.

Gujarat is expected to witness the most intense rainfall during the period, with heavy to very heavy showers and isolated extremely heavy spells likely in Ahmedabad and several adjoining districts. The IMD has warned of possible localised flooding, waterlogging and disruption to normal life.

Heavy rainfall has also been forecast for Mumbai and the Konkan region, where authorities have cautioned about waterlogging and traffic congestion in low-lying areas.

In Rajasthan, Jaipur and several eastern districts are likely to experience heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning.

The IMD has also issued rain and thunderstorm warnings for Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, warning that gusty winds of up to 85 kmph could affect some areas. Hilly regions have been cautioned about the risk of landslides, while strong winds in parts of eastern India may disrupt transport and power supply.
