Television actor and influencer Jannat Zubair has questioned the timing of several celebrities expressing support for the ongoing student protests over the alleged NEET paper leak, suggesting that many chose to speak out only after the movement had gained widespread attention.
In a post shared on social media, Jannat wrote, “It’s funny how everyone suddenly found their conscience on the same day. The protests have been going on for over a month. Students and protesters didn’t start suffering yesterday. Interesting how empathy arrived all at once.”
Though she did not name anyone, her remarks came a day after several Bollywood personalities publicly backed the students’ agitation.
Among those who voiced support were Kareena Kapoor Khan, Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Panday. Salman Khan also appealed to climate activist Sonam Wangchuk to end his hunger strike and expressed hope that the government would take action against those responsible for the alleged examination irregularities.
The protests, which have continued for more than a month, were triggered by allegations of NEET paper leaks and other examination irregularities. Students have been demanding greater transparency, accountability and reforms in the examination system.
The movement gained further momentum after Sonam Wangchuk joined the campaign and undertook a hunger strike in solidarity with the protesters. He ended his 26-day fast on Thursday following discussions with Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh.
Jannat’s post has since sparked debate on social media, with users divided over whether public support for the movement came too late or should be welcomed regardless of its timing.
