J&K Police Chargesheets Man in Cambodia Job Scam Case

Srinagar, July 25, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Crime Branch has filed a chargesheet against a man accused of cheating a youth by promising him a high-paying job in Cambodia and allegedly forcing him into online scamming activities after his arrival there.

The chargesheet was filed before the court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class against Mohd Yaseen Rather, son of Nisar Ahmad Rather, a resident of Kripalpora Payeen, Pattan, in FIR No. 19/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to the Crime Branch Kashmir statement, the accused allegedly lured the complainant with a promise of employment as a computer operator in Cambodia with a monthly salary of Rs 90,000. Trusting the offer, the victim transferred lakhs of rupees to the accused and also spent substantial amounts on visa processing, travel and other related expenses.

However, after reaching Cambodia, the victim was allegedly not provided the promised job and was instead forced to participate in online scamming activities.

The EOW said the investigation established the allegations, following which the chargesheet was submitted before the competent court.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police has advised people to remain cautious against fraudulent overseas employment offers and report such cases to the SSP, EOW Kashmir, Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir.
