Uzbek woman arrested at India–Nepal border in Bihar for using forged Aadhaar card

Patna, July 18, 2026

In a significant operation at the India–Nepal border in Raxaul, Bihar, security agencies apprehended a woman from Uzbekistan who was allegedly attempting to enter Nepal using a forged Indian Aadhaar card.

The arrest was made by personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) during routine border checks.

According to an official, SSB personnel were conducting routine inspections near the Raxaul Maitri Bridge on the evening of July 16, 2026, when they stopped a woman whose movements appeared suspicious.

During questioning, she identified herself as Bozorova Shakarjon, a citizen of Uzbekistan.

Authorities found that she possessed a valid Uzbek passport, reportedly valid until October 2029, but allegedly did not have a valid visa permitting her to stay in India.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the woman had been living in Mumbai for nearly a year with an Indian acquaintance.

During this period, investigators allege that she assumed a different identity, obtained forged documents, and secured an Indian Aadhaar card through fraudulent means.

Police believe she was attempting to leave India and cross into Nepal, when she was intercepted at the border.

Following the initial interrogation, the SSB handed her over to the Haraiya Police Station of the East Champaran district for further legal proceedings.

Haraiya Station House Officer, Kishan Kumar Paswan, confirmed that the woman did not possess a valid visa for her stay in India and that a forged Indian Aadhaar card had been recovered from her possession.

“A forged Indian Aadhaar card has also been recovered from the woman,” SHO Kishan Kumar Paswan said.

A case is being investigated under the relevant provisions of the Passport Act, visa regulations, and other applicable laws governing foreign nationals in India.

Investigating agencies are now trying to determine who helped the woman obtain the forged Aadhaar card, who facilitated her alleged illegal stay in India, whether others were involved in preparing forged identity documents, and the purpose of her intended travel to Nepal.

Authorities are also examining her contacts, activities, and possible associates in India.(Agency)
