Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday expressed confidence that his party would register a surprise victory in the Bankipur Assembly by-election, claiming voters across all sections of society had backed the RJD candidate.
Speaking to reporters after polling concluded, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly said the outcome of the bypoll would surprise many when votes are counted on August 3.
Tejashwi asserted that RJD candidate Rekha Gupta had received support from voters across caste, religious and social groups.
“The people of Bankipur are voting for the Lantern this time. The Lantern will shine in Bankipur. We have received votes from every ward and every polling booth,” he said.
Claiming that feedback received by the party indicated an advantage across the constituency, Tejashwi alleged that voters had united to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He further claimed that despite representing the Bankipur constituency for more than three decades, the BJP had failed to deliver adequate development, leading to public dissatisfaction.
“The BJP is facing defeat in Bankipur this time, and the Rashtriya Janata Dal will emerge victorious. Our candidate, Rekha Gupta, has received support from all sections of society. The results on August 3 will be in our favour,” he said.
The Bankipur Assembly by-election witnessed a three-cornered contest among BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha, RJD nominee Rekha Gupta and Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor.
The official outcome of the by-election will be declared after the counting of votes on August 3.
