A Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) officer in Ajmer was allegedly kidnapped for a Rs 51 lakh ransom, with police suspecting that his brother-in-law was behind the plot. The officer, Ravi Kumar Meena, was rescued after investigators tracked the suspected kidnappers using CCTV footage and technical evidence.
Meena, Chief Office Superintendent at the RRB in Ajmer, allegedly disappeared on August 21 after leaving his office. His mother, Samanti Meena, subsequently lodged a kidnapping complaint at the Civil Lines police station after he failed to return home.
According to Meena’s statement to police, he was travelling towards the chairman’s bungalow to collect an office laptop when a car allegedly hit his motorcycle. Three or four men then allegedly forced him into the vehicle. He told investigators that he recognised two of them as Deva and Anil, who allegedly later told him that Mahendra, his wife’s brother, had sent them to abduct him.
The group allegedly took Meena to Nangal Pyariwas and later to a forested area near Tehla, where he was allegedly assaulted and told to arrange Rs 51 lakh. He was reportedly prevented from contacting anyone for about 24 hours before being forced to call his mother and seek the ransom amount.
Police also allege that the suspects took Meena to the Aandhi area and used his Aadhaar card to arrange stamp paper. He was allegedly forced to write an affidavit stating that he would pay Rs 51 lakh and had not been kidnapped.
Meanwhile, police teams examined footage from more than 130 CCTV cameras and tracked a suspected Fortuner travelling towards Jaipur. Cyber Cell analysis of call detail records and other technical inputs helped investigators trace the suspects. Teams from Ajmer, Dausa and Alwar subsequently conducted raids at suspected locations.
Meena was allegedly being taken towards Bandikui when the suspects spotted an Ajmer police vehicle and fled after abandoning him. Police then rescued him and apprehended suspects with assistance from local police teams.
Police allege that Mahendra orchestrated the kidnapping with the help of Deva, Anil and others. Investigators are questioning the arrested suspects to establish the full conspiracy and determine whether others were involved.
