A day before the scheduled NEET-UG 2026 re-examination following the alleged paper leak, opposition leaders hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Union government, saying that the problem with conducting such examinations are still the same. However, the NDA asserted that this time the Union government has taken all measures to ensure a transparent exam.
Students’ Federation of India (SFI) leader P.S. Sanjeev said: “The problems have not changed. The NTA and its system have not been scrapped and no judicial investigation has been conducted. Union (Education Minister) Dharmendra Pradhan has still not resigned.”
While emphasising that airlifting question papers won’t solve the issue of exam paper leak, the Left-leaning outfit’s leader said: “The problem is with the NTA.”
Congress MP Imran Masood also lashed out at the Centre, saying it has “failed”.
“The future of our youth is being played with, and the government itself does not know what to do. The Air Force is being used — for the first time in history… So that the government can claim that it has not failed,” he told IANS.
Congress leader Nana Patole accused the Union government of “repeatedly committing the sin of messing with the future of students”.
“After the paper leak, so many students across the nation have committed suicide, their families have been uprooted. Despite this the Education Minister has not resigned. The role of the government is only to destroy the lives of students,” he alleged.
Echoing similar view, Samajwadi Party MP Sanatan Pandey said: “Not every day is the same for everyone. Had the authorities conducted the first examination on time and with proper arrangements, this situation would not have arisen. This government’s approach has always been reactive—it acts only after an incident occurs.”
Meanwhile, the NDA hailed the Centre’s efforts for an “error free” re-examination.
BJP National Spokesperson Ajay Alok told IANS that the NTA does not want to take any risk.
“The government is also very proactive. All agencies across the country are fully active to ensure that no lapse of any kind takes place. From mock drills to all necessary security arrangements, every measure is being taken, including temporarily suspending Telegram,” he said.
While urging for a transparent exam, BJP MP Pradeep Kumar Singh also said that the Union government has taken steps to ensure that.
“The government has taken this initiative to ensure that the examination remains fair and free from any kind of complaints or irregularities,” he told reporters.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said the NEET re-examination was “necessary”.
JD-U National Spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad echoed support for Centre’s proactive efforts, saying: “Mock drills will ensure that no stone is left unturned for an error free examination. All steps have been taken to eliminate students’ concerns over question paper leaks.”
“I believe that restrictions on Telegram and the transportation of question papers to different states through the Air Force aircrafts are among the precautionary measures being taken to ensure transparency in the examinations,” he added.(Agency)
