A woman who claims jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi to be her husband despite admitting that she has never met him has been arrested for allegedly threatening a Jat leader and a YouTuber over remarks concerning Bishnoi and his gang.

The accused, identified as Bindu Devi, was arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police from Jaipur and brought to Shamli on Saturday.

Bindu, originally from Buxar in Bihar, has been living in Jaipur and working as a bouncer for a security agency. Police said she also has Lawrence Bishnoi’s name tattooed on her hand.

The case followed complaints by Mukul Chaudhary, Shamli district president of the youth wing of the All India Jat Mahasabha, and YouTuber Neeraj Sharma.

According to available information, Mukul had attended the September 2 thirteenth-day ceremony of Haryanvi singer Ankit Baliyan and subsequently made comments concerning Lawrence Bishnoi and his gang during an interaction carried on a YouTube channel.

Neeraj Sharma later shared the video on his Facebook page. Bindu allegedly commented on the social media post, obtained Neeraj’s phone number and subsequently threatened both Mukul and Neeraj over the telephone on September 7.

Mukul and Neeraj approached the Shamli Superintendent of Police on September 9, following which a case was registered and an investigation initiated.

Police traced Bindu to the Kartarpur area of Jaipur, where she was arrested before being brought to Shamli on September 12. The mobile phone allegedly used to make the threats has also been recovered.

Shamli Superintendent of Police Narendra Pratap Singh said Bindu was originally from Buxar in Bihar and had been living in Jaipur after separating from her husband around eight years ago. She is the mother of four daughters and a son.

During questioning, Bindu reportedly told police that she had considered Lawrence Bishnoi her husband for the past eight years despite never having met him.

“I have considered Lawrence Bishnoi my husband for eight years. I have never met him. I will meet him whenever I get the opportunity. I will wait for him for lifetimes. If anyone says anything wrong about him, I will take revenge,” she was quoted as saying.

She also reportedly maintained that people should not make allegations against Bishnoi without evidence and said that if he had committed any crime, he should be punished in accordance with law.

The alleged threats came against the backdrop of the murder of Haryanvi singer Ankit Baliyan, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants on August 26 while returning to his car after leaving a gym in Shamli.

Police are continuing their investigation into the alleged threats as well as the circumstances surrounding Baliyan’s murder.
