The Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday conducted raids at multiple locations across South Kashmir as part of an ongoing terror-related investigation, officials said.
The searches were carried out in districts including Kulgam and Shopian, with assistance from other security and investigative agencies. Officials said further details would be shared as the operation progresses.
The CIK is a specialised wing of the J&K Police that focuses on identifying and dismantling terror networks, radicalisation modules and terror-funding channels. Its recent operations have increasingly targeted suspected networks using encrypted and hidden messaging applications to communicate with handlers across the border.
Earlier this year, the agency conducted coordinated searches across six districts, including Budgam, Awantipora, Pulwama, Kupwara, Shopian and Srinagar. Investigators found that some suspects were allegedly using high-security encrypted applications to maintain contact with cross-border terrorist handlers. Digital devices and communication logs were seized as part of efforts to map these networks.
In July, the CIK said it had neutralised a Jaish-e-Mohammed recruitment cell operating across Pulwama, Ganderbal, Srinagar and Budgam. The agency had conducted searches at 10 locations in connection with the module, which was allegedly receiving directions from a cross-border commander and seeking to recruit local youths into sleeper cells.
The CIK has also conducted operations targeting inmate-linked communication networks. Coordinated searches were carried out at Anantnag District Jail and premises in Kulgam, Udhampur and Jammu City after suspicious technical signatures were detected from prison facilities.
During those operations, police recovered mobile phones, SIM cards and tablets from prison cells and locations linked to suspected external contacts, officials said.
Further details of Sunday’s raids in Kulgam and Shopian are awaited.
