Actress Hina Khan has urged people to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in an environmentally responsible manner, calling for greater adoption of eco-friendly Ganpati idols.
On Sunday, Hina shared a series of pictures on Instagram from her meeting with Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and appealed to her followers to bring home idols that do not harm the environment.
In a detailed caption, the actress thanked the Governor for involving her in the initiative and encouraged people to support the use of eco-friendly idols.
“Honoured. Thank you for making me a part of this initiative Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra Shri Jishnu Dev Varma ji. This Ganesh Chaturthi, let’s bring Bappa home without harming nature,” she wrote.
Hina stressed that idols made without plaster of Paris (POP) could help reduce pollution and minimise damage to water bodies.
“Eco-friendly idols aren’t just a trend, they’re the right way. No POP means less pollution, less damage to our water bodies, and a little more care for the resources we’ve been blessed with,” she said.
Describing sustainability as part of India’s traditional approach to nature, Hina added: “Respect nature. Protect what sustains us. Celebrate without causing harm.”
The actress also extended Ganesh Chaturthi greetings to her followers.
Hina, who is married to Rocky Jaiswal, has previously spoken about the couple’s approach to celebrating traditions from both faiths.
During a recent appearance on the dance reality show India’s Best Dancer Season 5, she recalled celebrating her first Karwa Chauth with Rocky. She said her husband believes the fast should not be limited to women and that husbands should also observe it for their wives.
Reacting to a performance on the show, Hina said she had celebrated her first Karwa Chauth with Rocky and saw the same sense of togetherness in the performance.
She also revealed that Rocky had observed the fast alongside her for her well-being, adding a personal dimension to their shared celebration of the festival.
